Do I need a Calibration Certificate?

Do you need a calibration certificate?

The answer is ‘maybe’. Scales arrive in the UK from all over the world. Most new scales are factory calibrated from a quality standpoint and have supporting documentation available. The manufacture will perform a calibration to ensure the scale is within tolerance and functioning properly to their standards. They will then issue a 'Certificate of Conformity' or 'Quality Certificate' to state that the scale has passed manufacturing or regulatory requirements. This however is not a traceable Certificate of Calibration.

For peace of mind or for ISO records in a Quality Manual the scale should have proof of calibration by an approved Calibration Company.

This calibration is carried out by adding calibrated test weights to the scale over its range to capacity. The weight readings each time are recorded on the calibration certificate. These readings along with a unique Calibration Certificate No; The Certificate No. of the weights; Full scale description; Date and End User details.
